There was one more place I really wanted to visit before leaving Bolivia – lake Titicaca. It is located on the border of Peru and Bolivia and has a surface elevation of more than 12,000 ft. We made our first stop in a small town of Copacabana situated on the Bolivian part of the lake.

From Lima we took an overnight bus to Arequipa, Peru’s second largest city. As soon as we arrived to the bus terminal, I realized that we’re not in Kansan anymore. Crazy traffic, yellow cabs everywhere (I don’t even know how many times I was almost hit by one), Peruvians trying to sell you things you don’t need, and, of course, beautiful colonial-era buildings – I loved everything about it!

Backpacking through South America has always been at the top of my bucket list. For some reason I never thought that I would actually have the guts to do it, but it turns out I was wrong. A month and a half ago we flew from Los Angeles to Peru, and it’s been quite an adventure since then!
