JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH

journey to the center of the earth

After two days spent on a bus, we finally made it to Ecuador. Initially we were planning to spend only ten days there before heading to Colombia, but ended up staying for nearly three weeks. We started our trip in Cuenca, one of the most popular destinations among expats. After spending couple days exploring this beautiful city, soaking in natural hot springs and hiking in El Cajas National Park, we continued our journey to the capital of Ecuador – Quito. The city itself is amazing, it’s one of the most beautiful places in South America. Many tourists go there for just one reason – to visit the middle of the world which is actually a very unique place despite being too crowded and touristy.

We made our next stop in Baños, a small town also known as the “Adventure Capital of Ecuador” and “Gateway to the Amazon”. Frankly, I never had any desire to go to the Amazon, but once we got to Baños I realized that I couldn’t pass up the opportunity of exploring one of the most interesting places in the world. We stayed with local tribes in the Amazon rainforest for a few days, learned about indigenous Indian cultures, went hiking in the jungle during the day and at night, swam under a waterfall, saw wild monkeys, alligators, snakes and other animals, tried different tropical fruits, enjoyed canoe rides down the river – in other words, had the time of our lives.
